Our Refurbishing Process

  • Through our refurbish and refresh process, Skilled instrument technicians take instruments that are abandoned and no longer being played, and make them playable, sonically pleasing, and when we can, attractive to the eye. We find discarded instruments, clean them, fix broken parts, replace rusty ones make them playable, and above all keep them affordable.

  • We source our refurbished instruments through multiple activities. We participate in auctions and consistently review local classified ads for affordable instruments. We also buy instruments from our local customers, as well as take instruments in trade.

  • Each instrument to be refurbished is first inspected, and played (if playable) to determine the specific needs of any instrument. We look for electronic failures, physical issues, playability issues, and hardware issues (rust, Broken pieces, etc.) Our refurbished instruments generally are 5-50 years old.

Each guitar or other string instrument, goes through this refresh/refurbish process:

  • Test for playability and functionality

  • De-string Instrument

  • Flatten fretboard (if appropriate)

  • Clean electronics (if applicable)

  • Clean fretboard

  • Oil rosewood fretboards

  • Polish frets (if applicable)

  • Replace or repair all marginal electronics

  • Replace or repair all marginal hardware

  • Polish Instrument

  • Re-string, re-tune, and adjust for best possible action

We also buy refurbished instruments from the factory authorized refurbisher for Fender, Guild, Gretsch, Breedlove, Recording King, Jackson, Squier and Epiphone as well as others. These instruments were returned to the factory or rejected off the assembly line, and then sold to the refurbisher. These instruments are generally 6-months – 4 years old.

  • All returned or rejected instruments are sold to the factory authorized refurbisher.

  • 75% of these guitars have no flaws or signs of use, and are effectively “like new”, while some have visible flaws or detectable needed repairs.

  • They are individually inspected by skilled guitar repair teams.

  • Those with paint flaws are resurfaced to eliminate impact of flaw.

  • Those with visible problems such as cracks in wood, or non-working electronics are repaired. After they are inspected and if required, repaired, they are passed out of the shop and made available to dealers like me.
